Stepan Avagyan Memorial-2018։ Opening Ceremony


Today, Jermuk resort town hosted Stepan Avagyan Memorial: “Jermuk-2018” XIII International Open Youth Chess Tournament. 
The “Jermuk-2018” XIII International Open Youth Chess Tournament is an annual tournament for youth chess players from different countries of the world. 
This year over 325 young players from Armenia, Artsakh, Russia, Germany, Latvia and Belarus will take part in the memorial. 
The competition will be held according to the Swiss system in 9 rounds, in different age groups (under 8, 10, 12 and 18). Only the tournament under 18 will be sent to international calculation.
Time control: 90 minutes for the whole game with 30 seconds increment starting from the first move for each player. 
The total prize fund of the tournament is 2 700 000 AMD. 
The organizer of the tournament is Chess Academy of Armenia.

Since 2010 the main sponsor of the tournament is the "Lydian Armenia" Mineral Exploration and Development Company. "Jermuk Ashkhar" Health Center is also supporting us to organize the event.

During the opening ceremony of the event, the president of the Chess Federation of Vayots Dzor Harutyun Sargsyanyan, director of "Jermuk Ashkhar" health center complex Karen Avagyan and president of the Chess Academy, vice-president of the Armenian Chess Federation Smbat Lputian welcomed participants and guests wishing good luck to everyone.

The 1st round of the tournament will start tomorrow at 10:30, at "Jermuk Ashkhar" health center complex.
